Downgrade ios 5.1 to 5.0.1, 5.0, 4.3.3 on iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch

We all know that, Apple has already release iOS 5.1 and many of the user have upgraded their ipad and iphone to iOS 5.1 and lose their jailbreak. So, in this article we are going to show you how to downgrade ios 5.1 to ios 5.0.1, 5.0 and 4.3.3 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G, 3G. However, this downgrade will not work for other A4 devices such as iphone 4S and iPad 2.

According to iPhone Dev Team blog post:

  • If you have an iPhone 4S, the basic rule above is really the only rule: you cannot restore back to 5.0.1 once the 5.0.1 signing window is closed, no matter what (even if you saved your SHSH blobs).
  • If you have an iPad2 with saved 4.x hashes, you can in fact downgrade to that 4.x but you won’t be able to get to 5.0.1 once the 5.0.1 signing window is closed (even if you saved your 5.0.1 SHSH blobs).
  • If you have a device earlier than the iPad2, you can downgrade to whatever version you want, as long as you have saved SHSH blobs for that version. You’ll need the assistance of geohot’s limera1n exploit with tools like redsn0w to get into “pwned DFU mode” and bypass the downgrade restriction.

So, if you have updgrade ios 5.1 on A4 devices i.e. iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G, 3G, you can downgrade your iOS to the lower version by following the procedure below. But, at first we need to save SHSH blobs for the required iOS to be downgraded on your computer.

Downgrade iOS 5.1 To iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.0 Custom Firmware with iFaith

Note: This downgrade does not work with A5 device such as ipad 2 and iphone 4S. I will only work for A4 devices only such as iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G, 3G.

Step 1: First download iFaith 1.4.2 here, iOS 5.0.1 from here and iTunes 10.6 from here

Step 2: Now execute your iFaith. Choose “Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs” > “Build IPSW”.

Step 3: Now browse for the SHSH blobs that you saved on your computer to downgrade back to iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5. iFaith will ask you to select IPSW firmware, select iOS 5.1. After select that, iFaith will create a new custom firmware for you on the desktop with SHSH blobs for the firmware that you are downgrading to.

Step 4: Now, open your iTunes and put your device in DFU mode and select custom Firmware that you created with iFaith on iTunes to restore.

Downgrade iOS 5.1 To 4.3.5 Or Below

Note: This downgrade will work for all devices except iPhone 4S. That’s mean it work for iPad 2 also.

Step 1: First download iTunes 10.6 from here and the iOS that you are going to downgrade to (iOS 5.0.1 / iOS5 / iOS 4.3.5 or below).

Step 2: Plug in your device to your computer. Now use latest redsnow jailbreak tool to put your device in “Pwned DFU” mode uner Extras.

Step 3: Now you will need to edit the host file in order to trick Apple’s servers. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc on windows. On Mac, navigate directly to etc.

Step 4: Now Backup your hosts file on your computer before editing. Then open the host file and add this line at the end of the file.

Step 5: Now save your host file. Then open iTunes and select your iOS device on the sidebar. While holding the Shift on Windows or Alt on OS X key, select Restore. Now choose the firmware file which you wish to downgrade to.

In some cases, iTunes may display error 1013 which can be ignore as it is normal while downgrading. Now, your device will be in recovery Mode with fully installed version version of your desired ios.

Step 6: Now your device is at recovery mode, you can get out of this mode by downloading TinyUmbrella (for windows - for Mac OS X) and selecting “Kick Out of Recovery Mode”.

Now you can untethered jailbreak your device.
